Can we replace photo in our ID with cartoon profile picture?

The world is changing. Many traditional form of what we do in our life have been abandoned and replaced by newer form which are usually more technology-packed. We remember using letters to communicate with friends or colleagues, but now everything has changed, we use email, messenger, phone to replace the slow conventional letter.

Will a cartoon profile picture of a person change the photo ID in our official identity document such as  passport or driving license? Well, that is certainly a stupid question to ask, but who knows :-)

An identity document (also called a piece of identification or ID, or colloquially as papers) is any document which may be used to identify a person or verify aspects of a person's personal identity. If issued in a small, standard credit card size form, it is usually called an identity card (IC or ID card). Some countries issue formal identity documents, while others may require identity verification using informal documents. When the identity document incorporates a person's photograph, it may be called photo ID.

Photo identification or photo ID is an identity document that includes a photograph of the holder, usually only his or her face. The most commonly accepted forms of photo ID are those issued by government authorities, such as driver's licenses, identity cards and passports, but special-purpose photo IDs may be also produced, such as internal security or access control cards.

Before that day comes, when photo ID is really replaced by a cartoon image, we better prepare ourself by making our own picture ID. The best tool is available here, it's easy, it's professional, go to www.hexatar.com or www.pickaface.net to make your own cartoon picture ID or avatar.

What is the meaning of "avatar"?

Do you know what the word "avatar" means? Avatar is originated from Sanskrit language avatāra that means ‘descent,’ from ava ‘down’ + tar ‘to cross.’ You figure it out what that means yourself because that is far from what we perceive today.

Avatar (2009)
In Hinduism which the Sanskrit is believed to be the original language, avatar has a meaning of "a manifestation of a deity or released soul in bodily form on earth; an incarnate divine teacher". Pretty scary isn't it? Sounds like the true meaning as in the movie Avatar (2009), right?

Further, it is understood as an incarnation, embodiment, or manifestation of a person or idea. The example in a sentence: "He chose John Stuart Mill as the avatar of the liberal view."

So, what is the most relevant translation in our modern world? In computing world, it is perceived as "an icon or figure representing a particular person in computer games, Internet forums, etc."

Wikipedia describe it: an avatar is the graphical representation of the user or the user's alter ego or character. It may take either a three-dimensional form, as in games or virtual worlds, or a two-dimensional form as an icon in Internet forums and other online communities.

Now, that is exactly what we know these day. We make our avatar in many different format, cartoon, realistic drawing, photo, etc. Some are calling it "profile picture" too.

Today, almost all services that require you to have an account will force you to upload an image to "best represent" yourself. Each individual will have different style and taste in representing her or himself.
